Biden and Trump Held Debates: Key Takeaways

Joe Biden and Donald Trump Debates

According to TV viewers, Trump appeared much more convincing

Democratic Party candidate and current U.S. President Joe Biden and Republican Party candidate Donald Trump held their first televised debate as part of the presidential race. This was reported by WNTab on Friday, June 28.

According to a poll conducted by CNN, 67% declared Trump the winner of the debate, while 33% favored Biden.

Overall, the politicians’ interaction hardly resembled a real debate, more like a conversation between schoolchildren trying to determine who is worse. Both candidates did not hesitate to make baseless statements with facts that did not match reality.

For instance, Biden claimed that he is the only president in this century under whom American soldiers did not die abroad. U.S. media pointed out the error – during Biden’s tenure in the White House, 16 American servicemen died abroad.

Trump also “boasted” about his economic achievements, stating that under his opponent, the country’s budget deficit became the largest in history. In fact, the largest deficit in the last 20 years in the U.S. Treasury was recorded in 2020 during Trump’s presidency, when it reached $3.13 trillion.

As expected, the politicians also spoke on current issues. Trump reiterated that under his administration, Russia would not have attacked Ukraine, nor would there have been an escalation in the Middle East. He once again promised to end the war in Ukraine before assuming his official duties if he wins the election. Regarding Israel, Trump stated that the Israeli army should be “allowed to finish its job” in Gaza. He also accused his opponent of increasing China’s role in the world.

Joe Biden, on the issue of the war in Ukraine, emphasized once again that Vladimir Putin is a criminal seeking to revive the Soviet Union. He also claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved his settlement plan. Regarding U.S.-China relations, the current White House head noted that the country now has the lowest trade deficit with the Asian country, and his opponent cannot negotiate with Beijing at all.

There were also some humorous slip-ups, mostly expected from Biden. He notably called billionaires “trillionaires” and claimed victory over “Medicare” (the medical insurance program for citizens 65 and older), obviously meaning the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, the politician often stammered and spoke indistinctly.

Politicians and observers noted that Trump indeed appeared stronger, although not as much as expected. Biden worsened the impression of himself, but not to the extent many had predicted.

However, within the Democratic camp, discussions have begun about removing the current U.S. president from the race and putting forward a new candidate if the party wants to win the election. Meanwhile, an official representative of Joe Biden stated that the politician will continue the election campaign despite losing the debate.

It is expected that within the next 2-3 weeks, the final decision of the Democrats will be known.

Earlier, WNTab reported that there was an attempted coup in Bolivia.

Meanwhile, a new Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has been elected.
