Beijing sets mutual respect and equality as the only conditions for dialogue, rejecting threats and coercion
Official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Guo Jiakun, responded to comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding potential negotiations on trade tariffs. This was reported by WNTab on Thursday, April 24, citing the Xinhua news agency.
Guo Jiakun:
«Regarding the tariff war initiated by the U.S., China’s position is absolutely clear: we neither avoid it nor fear it. If the U.S. is determined to pursue a tariff and trade war, China is prepared to fight to the end. But if the U.S. genuinely wishes to resolve tariff issues through dialogue and negotiations, China’s doors are open».
He added that any talks must be based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit. The Chinese official emphasized that Washington’s strategy of negotiating through pressure on China is misguided and doomed to fail.
Guo’s comments came in response to President Trump’s remarks that the final tariffs on Chinese goods would be reduced from the current 145%, but would not be eliminated entirely. The U.S. leader also expressed confidence that Beijing must sign a trade deal with Washington, or the two countries would simply be unable to trade.
Earlier, WNTab reported that the United States had lifted increased tariffs on some Chinese goods.
