Six people participated in the voting
Donald Trump and Kamala Harris each received three votes in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. This was reported by WNTab on Tuesday, November 5, citing information from CNN.
Following a tradition that dates back to 1960, local residents are the first in the country to cast and count their votes. Just after midnight Eastern Time, Dixville Notch residents gather at the polling station, cast their ballots, and then the results are tallied and announced.
While the voting in this small town near the Canadian border doesn’t always predict the election winner (and sometimes doesn’t even reflect the opinion of the state’s residents), it draws significant interest from journalists and experts eager to start discussing the results of the day’s major event.
This time, six people participated in the voting—four Republicans and two independent voters. Their votes were evenly split between the Democratic and Republican candidates.
It’s worth noting that in the US, voters don’t directly elect the head of state. Instead, electors from each state cast their votes for the candidate who won that state. The number of electors per state varies. Altogether, the Electoral College comprises 538 representatives from across the country. To win the presidential race, a candidate needs at least 270 electoral votes.
