The victims of the explosion were local residents who attempted to collect fuel from the damaged truck

In the city of Majia, Jigawa State, Nigeria, 104 people were killed in an explosion after gathering around a fuel tanker involved in a road accident. This was reported by WNTab on Wednesday, October 16, citing BBC.

According to the police, the truck was involved in an accident and overturned. Fuel began leaking from the tank into a nearby ditch. Despite the police cordoning off the area, they were unable to control the crowd trying to collect the gasoline. Suddenly, an explosion occurred, taking the lives of those gathered near the vehicle.

Currently, there are reports of 104 fatalities and about a hundred injured. Many of the injured are in critical condition.

The police stated that the truck driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. He was unharmed and has been detained by law enforcement to clarify the circumstances of the incident.

Fuel tanker accidents in Nigeria are relatively common due to the poor condition of the roads. Notably, while the aftermath of the tragedy in Majia was being addressed, another similar truck overturned and exploded in Ibafon, Ogun State. Fortunately, no one was injured in that accident, although the explosion damaged other vehicles, causing thousands of dollars in losses.

Earlier, WNTab reported that 77 people died in floods in Sudan.

Additionally, 121 people were killed in a stampede during a religious festival in India.
