Storm Boris

In total, the disaster in Europe has claimed the lives of 21 people

Rescue workers in Italy have begun evacuating citizens from the northern regions of the country, where the devastating storm “Boris” has arrived. This was reported by WNTab on Thursday, September 19, citing The Guardian.

According to media reports, rescuers have already evacuated about a thousand people in the Emilia-Romagna region due to the threat of floods and landslides. In some cases, helicopters had to be used for the operations. Meanwhile, two people are considered missing.

The storm has been moving across Europe since September 12 and has already caused significant destruction and resulted in human casualties in the central part of the continent. The latest reports indicate that the death toll from the storm has reached 21 people. “Boris” has destroyed bridges, buildings, and damaged dams. The most affected areas are reported to be along the Czech-Polish border.

The water level in the Danube River has significantly risen, causing the river to overflow its banks along most of its course. Some sections of the river have been closed to navigation.

Meteorologists explain that the “perfect storm” occurred due to the meeting of cold Arctic air masses with warm air from the Mediterranean. Additionally, storm “Boris” has remained stationary for an extended period, leading to record rainfall in the form of rain or snow.

Earlier, WNTab reported that at least 77 people died due to massive flooding in Sudan.
