Florida police have detained a suspect in the attempted murder of former U.S. President and current Republican candidate Donald Trump. This was reported by WNTab on Monday, September 16.

It is known that shots were fired on September 15 near a golf club in West Palm Beach, where the politician was relaxing at the time. As it later turned out, the Secret Service agent opened fire after spotting a man with a rifle. The suspect abandoned the weapon and fled in a car.

At the scene, law enforcement found an AK-47 assault rifle with a scope, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera. The agent fired after seeing the man attempting to push the rifle’s barrel through the fence. At that moment, Donald Trump was on the golf course playing.

The politician later announced that he was unharmed in the incident and remains focused on his campaign for election victory.

Authorities later reported that they had detained the fugitive. The suspect was identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, the owner of a construction company. He had previously criticized Donald Trump, claiming he voted for him in 2016 but later became disappointed with his choice. Routh also criticized Biden and opposed vaccination. The suspect supported Ukraine and had attempted to recruit volunteers for the Ukrainian Armed Forces via social media.

The FBI is currently investigating the case.

Earlier, WNTab reported that Donald Trump and Kamala Harris held their first debate.
