The U.S. team clinched the top spot in the final medal standings
On August 11, the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games officially concluded in the French capital, Paris. This was reported by WNTab on August 12.
The official closing ceremony took place at the Stade de France and lasted over two hours. The event featured athletes who were still in Paris at the time, as well as over 100 pop performers, acrobats, and dancers. The highlight of the show was a jump by Hollywood actor Tom Cruise from the stadium’s roof, accompanied by the theme music from the movie “Mission: Impossible.”
At the end of the ceremony, the Olympic flag was ceremoniously handed over to representatives of the American city of Los Angeles, where the XXXIV Summer Olympic Games will be held in 2028.
Regarding the results of the 2024 Games, it’s worth noting that the battle for the top spot in the overall medal standings lasted until the final day of competition. The Chinese team was confidently leading until the U.S. women’s basketball team won the final match. This allowed the U.S. team to equal the number of gold medals with China and surpass their rivals in the overall standings thanks to a higher number of silver medals.
The U.S. also won the highest total number of medals, 126. Japan’s team secured the third spot in the overall standings. The hosts of the sporting event, the French team, took fifth place, being outperformed by the Australian team.
