Microsoft: Global Outage Knocks Out 8.5 Million Computers Worldwide

Windows Disruption Among the Largest in History

A global IT outage on July 19 caused 8.5 million computers running the Windows operating system to malfunction. This information, reported by WNTab on Sunday, July 21, cites a BBC report.

Journalists reference data from Microsoft, which can track PC functionality through telemetry data received via its network. The total number of devices affected by the outage represents less than 1% of all Windows-operated computers.

It’s noteworthy that one of the largest global computer disruptions occurred on July 19, 2024. Errors in the update to CrowdStrike antivirus software resulted in the notorious “blue screen of death” appearing on many users’ screens. The PC issues caused disruptions in the operations of airlines and airports, banks, postal services, TV companies, and healthcare systems. In some aviation hubs, passengers were registered manually.

CrowdStrike recommended that users restore their operating systems to the state before the antivirus update was installed.

Earlier, WNTab reported that the largest leak of user passwords globally had occurred in the network.
