The decision to accept the country into the organization was announced at the SCO summit in Kazakhstan
The Republic of Belarus has officially become the tenth full-fledged member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This was reported by WNTab on Thursday, July 4, citing the summit’s decision held in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana.
The country’s President, Alexander Lukashenko, stated that this event is a strategic prospect for his country: “Primarily in trade and economic and investment interaction, development of transport and logistics, information and communication, and other infrastructure.”
The main goals of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are to develop trust between states, ensure peace and stability in the region, jointly combat terrorism, engage in economic cooperation, and develop cultural relations.
Thus, the SCO now includes China, India, Russia, Pakistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Belarus.
