Armed militants carried out attacks in Dagestan and near the border with the partially recognized Abkhazia
Armed unidentified individuals committed terrorist acts in two cities of Dagestan in the Russian Federation, Derbent and Makhachkala, as well as on the border with the partially recognized state of Abkhazia. This was reported by WNTab on Monday, June 24, citing Russian media and law enforcement agencies.
In particular, in Derbent, unidentified assailants attacked a synagogue and an Orthodox church. As a result of the attack, an Orthodox priest and a security guard of one of the churches were killed. A fire broke out in the synagogue.
After a shootout, law enforcement officers evacuated 19 people who were hiding in the Orthodox church from the attackers.
Additionally, terrorists attacked a church and a road patrol service post in Makhachkala, and also fired on a police patrol on the outskirts of the city. A church guard was killed.
The total number of fatalities amounted to 9, with 25 injured.
As a result of law enforcement actions, four attackers in Makhachkala were neutralized. Anti-terrorist measures are ongoing.
Moreover, a shootout with unidentified individuals occurred near the border of the Russian Federation with the partially recognized state of Abkhazia. Currently, it is known that one person was killed and three were injured.
