Over 50 aftershocks followed the main quake
A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale struck Istanbul, Turkey, injuring 151 people. This was reported by WNTab on Wednesday, April 23, citing data from local emergency services.
According to local officials, the quake occurred at 12:40 PM local time. The epicenter was located 80 kilometers west of the city, with a depth of 7 kilometers. The strongest tremors lasted for approximately 13 seconds.
In the hours following the main shock, the city experienced more than 50 aftershocks, some reaching a magnitude of up to 5.9.
There were no reports of widespread damage or destruction. However, in the Fatih district, an abandoned building suffered severe structural damage. A total of 151 people sustained minor injuries, most of them reportedly hurt while jumping from buildings in a panic during the quake.
Earlier, WNTab reported that another natural disaster—a flood in Spain—claimed the lives of over 200 people.
