The changes are aimed at supporting the foreign policy agenda of U.S. President Donald Trump
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced plans for a major reorganization of the State Department. This was reported by WNTab on Wednesday, April 23, citing the politician’s statement.
Marco Rubio:
«Over the past 15 years, the department’s activities have expanded significantly and expenditures have sharply increased. But instead of returns on taxpayers’ investment, we’ve seen a decline in diplomatic efforts. The growing bureaucracy has created a system more aligned with radical political ideology than with advancing America’s national interests».
According to Rubio, the overly bureaucratized department is failing to fulfill its mission in an era of great power competition.
As part of the Secretary’s plan, more than 130 local branches of the department will be eliminated and staff will be reduced by 15%. This is expected to be achieved by consolidating functions of several offices in a given region, eliminating redundant divisions, and closing programs that, in the view of the White House administration, do not serve the national interests of the United States.
Rubio is confident that this approach will strengthen the department’s capacity from the bottom up — from individual bureaus to entire embassies.
Earlier, WNTab reported that the Trump administration does not rule out the possibility of the U.S. withdrawing from negotiations on resolving the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
