Criminals set 45 houses and 34 cars on Fire

At least 70 people were killed in two days as a result of an attack by the criminal group “Gran Grif” on the settlement of Pont-Sondé in the Artibonite department of Haiti. This was reported by WNTab on Saturday, October 5, citing the Anadolu news agency.

Local media report that clashes broke out between gang members and the police in Pont-Sondé. As a result of the confrontations, 45 houses and 34 cars were set on fire, and most of the population was forced to flee their homes.

UN representative in Haiti, Tamin Al-Hitan, stated that the criminals opened fire on people with automatic rifles. He also called on the international community to send reinforcements to the region.

The island nation has been experiencing an economic and political crisis for several years, which has led to security issues. Since the beginning of 2024 alone, around 3,900 people have been killed in attacks by armed gangs on civilians. Additionally, the country, with a population of 11 million, is facing the threat of famine.
