Minsk cited airspace violations and events in Russia’s Kursk region as reasons for these actions
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has ordered an increase in troop presence in the Gomel and Mozyr tactical directions—regions bordering Ukraine’s northern territories. This was reported by WNTab on Saturday, August 10, citing the news agency “BELTA.”
The agency, referencing Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin, reports that Minsk considered the flight of unmanned aerial vehicles over Belarusian territory, which were heading toward targets in Russia, as a provocation. Additionally, the events in Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukrainian Armed Forces took control of several settlements, prompted the decision to strengthen the military presence in the border zone.
Earlier, the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, stated that several Ukrainian UAVs had been shot down in Belarusian airspace.
According to Khrenin, the head of state ordered the deployment of special operations forces, ground troops, and missile forces to the specified directions, including the “Polonez” and “Iskander” missile systems.
Previously, WNTab reported that Ukrainian military forces announced taking control of the city of Sudzha in Russia’s Kursk region.
