Palestinian politician was in the Iranian capital to attend the inauguration ceremony of the country’s newly elected president, Masoud Pezeshkian
Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas movement, was killed as a result of a rocket attack on his residence in the Iranian capital, Tehran. This was reported by WNTab on Wednesday, July 31, citing local media.
It is reported that the politician’s bodyguard was also killed in the attack. The media believe that the attack was most likely carried out from the territory of another state.
Ismail Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
Turkey and Russia have already condemned the politician’s murder, while the US and Israel have not commented on the event. Masoud Pezeshkian stated that “Tehran will make the terrorist occupiers regret their actions.”
Ismail Haniyeh was actively involved in negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of hostages between Palestinians and Israelis. Analysts believe that peace in the Middle East can now be forgotten for a while. The possible escalation of the conflict has affected global markets – the price of Brent crude oil has already risen by 1.5%.
