US Presidential Election 2024: Joe Biden Announces Withdrawal of Candidacy – Statement

Incumbent President Supports Vice President Kamala Harris as Democratic Candidate

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has officially announced his withdrawal from the race for the future head of state. This was reported by WNTab on Sunday, July 21, citing an official statement from the White House.

Joe Biden:

“Although I intended to run for re-election, I believe that in the interest of my party and the country, it is better for me to step aside and focus on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

The head of state promised to address the nation later with explanations of his decision.

In his statement, the incumbent president called on Democrats to unite to defeat Donald Trump. He endorsed his vice president, Kamala Harris, as the Democratic Party’s candidate.

Donald Trump already reacted to his rival’s decision, calling him “the worst president in the country’s history.” He believes that the Democratic Party will nominate Kamala Harris as their candidate, whom, according to him, is easier to defeat.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson also called on Biden to resign from the presidency: “If Joe Biden is unfit to run in the presidential race, then he is also unfit for the presidency.”

It is worth noting that the last time an incumbent president refused to run for re-election in the US was in 1968, when Lyndon Johnson decided not to seek a second term.

Earlier, WNTab reported that Donald Trump officially became the Republican Party’s candidate for the US presidency.

Meanwhile, Democrats have named the main contender to replace Biden.
